Ministry of Tribal Affairs Unveils Adi Vaani — India’s First AI Translator for Tribal Languages.
New Delhi, Sept 1:In a landmark initiative to preserve and promote India’s rich tribal heritage, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs on Sunday launched Adi Vaani (Beta Version) — the country’s first AI-powered translator for tribal languages.The digital tool, designed to support translation of over 461 tribal languages, is expected to play a crucial role in bridging communication gaps, improving access to education and governance, and creating new opportunities for entrepreneurship in tribal areas.
Officials from the Ministry said that Adi Vaani will not only serve as a medium for preserving indigenous dialects but also help integrate tribal communities into the national mainstream without losing their cultural identity.Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram described the launch as a “historic leap” towards digital inclusion and empowerment, noting that technology must be harnessed to uplift the most vulnerable sections of society.
The slogan “Translating Words, Transforming Worlds” has been adopted for the project, underscoring its vision of cultural preservation through innovation.The Ministry also highlighted that the initiative is in line with the government’s broader efforts under the Janajatiya Gaurav and Digital India campaigns, strengthening the foundation for inclusive growth.
