Nuapada DLSA Extends Interim Support to Sexual Assault Survivor, Hands Over Rs. 30,000 Cheque.

Sept 16: In a step towards ensuring justice and rehabilitation for victims of sexual crimes, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Nuapada, has provided interim financial compensation of Rs. 30,000 to a minor girl who was a victim of sexual assault.As per the instructions of Shri Niranjan Panda, District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman of DLSA, Nuapada, the financial aid was extended under the Victim Compensation Scheme.

The recommendation for compensation came from Shri Sunil Kumar Das, Additional District and Sessions Judge and POCSO Court Judge, Nuapada, after hearing the matter under the provisions of the POCSO Act.

In a brief ceremony,Navneeta Dash, Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, handed over the cheque to the minor victim. She also counseled the girl to utilize the compensation meaningfully for her well-being, particularly advising her to resume her schooling and focus on education for a better future.

Notably, under the Odisha Victim Compensation Scheme, 2017, a cheque of Rs. 4 lakh had earlier been provided to another minor girl. The Authority emphasized that such financial assistance is meant to help victims recover from trauma and reintegrate into mainstream society.

Authorities reiterated that these compensations are aimed at providing immediate relief and long-term support to victims and their families while the judicial process continues. The DLSA reaffirmed its commitment to extend legal, financial, and emotional assistance to vulnerable sections of society, especially victims of heinous crimes.
