Berhampur University Organises Workshop on “Language and Writing Style of Mass Media”

The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Berhampur University, successfully organised a workshop on “Language and Writing Style of Mass Media” under its ongoing series “Media Makers: Workshop on Creativity, Skills and Entrepreneurship” on 15 September 2025 at the University Seminar Hall.

The resource person for the session was Mr. Chandrakant Panda, Senior Content Writer, Nandighosh TV. He shared valuable insights on news writing techniques in Odia language, focusing on the importance of clarity, accuracy, and style in media writing. Mr. Panda also delivered a lecture on the evolution of the Odia language across decades, highlighting its role in shaping journalism and communication in the state.

The workshop was attended by students and research scholars of the Journalism and Mass Communication Department, who actively participated in discussions and gained practical exposure to professional news writing practices.

The programme was coordinated by Dr. Chinu Bohidar, who emphasized the importance of bridging academic learning with industry practices for nurturing the next generation of media professionals.

The event forms a part of Berhampur University’s continuous efforts, supported by the Higher Education Department, Government of Odisha, to enhance creativity, skill development, and entrepreneurship among journalism students.

This initiative aligns with the vision of the Ministry of Education, the University Grants Commission (UGC), and the Odisha State Higher Education Council to strengthen higher education and promote quality training in communication and media studies.
