Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh Pays Tributes to 1965 War Heroes on Diamond Jubilee of Victory
Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh today paid rich tributes to the valiant heroes of the 1965 India-Pakistan War on the occasion of the Diamond Jubilee of India’s historic victory. The solemn ceremony was held in New Delhi, where the Defence Minister remembered the indomitable courage, supreme sacrifices, and strategic brilliance that defined the war.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Rajnath Singh recalled the legendary battles of Asal Uttar, Chawinda, and Phillora, which showcased the unmatched bravery and determination of Indian soldiers in the face of aggression. He particularly hailed the supreme sacrifice of Param Vir Chakra awardee Company Quartermaster Havildar Abdul Hamid, whose act of heroism in destroying enemy tanks remains etched as one of the finest examples of battlefield gallantry.
The Raksha Mantri also paid homage to the inspiring leadership of the then Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, who guided the nation with his vision and resolve, symbolised by the iconic call of “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan.”
He emphasised that the 1965 war not only reaffirmed India’s military prowess but also united the entire nation in a spirit of resilience and patriotism. Shri Rajnath Singh underlined that the sacrifices of the 1965 war heroes continue to inspire generations of soldiers and citizens alike, strengthening the collective resolve to safeguard the nation’s sovereignty and integrity.
Marking the 60th anniversary of the victory, the Defence Minister reiterated the Government’s commitment to honouring the memory of the martyrs and ensuring the welfare of veterans and their families.
The event concluded with floral tributes and the remembrance of all those who laid down their lives in the defence of the motherland during the 1965 conflict.
