Navratri Prep Turns Risky, Firemen Step In to Save Worker at Jeypore Temple
Timely Action by Jeypore Fire Services Averts Tragedy at Temple.
A dramatic rescue unfolded at the Jagat Janani Temple in Jeypore on Monday when a worker engaged in decoration for the upcoming Navratri festival was attacked by honey bees and stranded atop the temple.
The incident caused panic among devotees and local people who had gathered at the temple premises. Eyewitnesses said the man, while busy in the decoration work at height, was suddenly stung by a swarm of honey bees, leaving him disoriented and unable to climb down on his own.
Upon receiving the alert, a specialized team from Jeypore Fire Station rushed to the temple. Using professional equipment such as an extension ladder, full body harness, chair nut, rescue line, and a fire proximate suit, the team safely brought down the individual without causing him any further harm. He was immediately shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), Jeypore, in an ambulance for treatment.
The swift and coordinated response of the fire service team was widely appreciated by the public. Many onlookers praised their bravery and efficiency, saying that their timely intervention prevented a possible tragedy.
“The fire personnel risked their own safety to save a life. We must appreciate their dedication,” said a devotee present at the temple.
Local residents also expressed concern over the frequent presence of honey bee hives in temple premises, especially during large gatherings and festive seasons. They urged the authorities to take preventive measures to ensure the safety of devotees and workers during festivals like Navratri, when temple decorations and crowds are at their peak.
Adding to the public response, Assistant Fire Officer (AFO) Suresh Barik, who led the rescue, said “It was a challenging situation as the person was at a considerable height and surrounded by bees. Our team followed all safety protocols and used specialized equipment to ensure that he was rescued without any harm. We appeal to the public and temple authorities to remain alert about such risks, especially during festive decorations.”
The incident has once again highlighted the crucial role of the fire and rescue services in responding to emergencies beyond fire-related situations, ensuring public safety in critical times.
With Navratri celebrations around the corner, temple management committees and civic authorities must take proactive steps to inspect and clear potential hazards like bee hives, loose wiring, or weak structures before festive preparations begin. Preventive safety checks can go a long way in avoiding such life-threatening incidents and ensuring that devotees celebrate the festivals in a secure environment.
