NCC Welcomes Its 35th Director General, Lt Gen Virendra Vats
Lt Gen Virendra Vats, YSM, SM, VSM Assumes Charge as 35th Director General of NCC
Lt Gen Virendra Vats, YSM, SM, VSM has assumed charge as the 35th Director General of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), the world’s largest uniformed youth organisation. He took over the appointment from Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh, PVSM, AVSM, VSM.
Commissioned into the 19 KUMAON Regiment of the Indian Army on 17 December 1988, Lt Gen Vats has had an illustrious military career spanning more than three decades.
The General Officer is an alumnus of some of the finest military institutions in the country, including the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, the Army War College, Mhow, and the prestigious National Defence College, New Delhi.
As a highly decorated officer, he has been awarded the Yudh Seva Medal (YSM), Sena Medal (SM), and Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) for his distinguished service and leadership in various capacities.
Under his leadership, the NCC is expected to further strengthen its role in grooming young cadets into disciplined, responsible, and motivated citizens committed to national service. His vast experience in operations, training, and strategic planning is seen as a major asset for guiding the organisation into the future.
The NCC, with over 13 lakh cadets across the Army, Navy, and Air Force wings, plays a pivotal role in instilling discipline, leadership, and a spirit of service among the youth of India.
With Lt Gen Virendra Vats at the helm, the NCC is poised to continue its journey of shaping the next generation of leaders for the nation.
