Koraput Police Hit Hard on Crime Syndicates — From Narcotics to NSA Action!
Koraput Police Nab Ganja Mafia, Invoke NSA Against Hardcore Criminal
Koraput Police have achieved a major breakthrough in their ongoing anti-crime drive by arresting several notorious criminals and invoking the National Security Act (NSA) against a habitual offender.
According to police sources,Hrudananda Nayak alias Prince (35), a hardcore criminal with 17 cases of extortion, dacoity, and NDPS Act violations registered against him, has been detained under the National Security Act to prevent him from continuing his organized criminal activities in the Jeypore, Boriguma, and Nabarangpur areas.
In a separate operation, Padwa Police seized 350 kilograms of ganja and two pistols from a gang led by Lal Bahadur Darjee (34), a veteran ganja trafficker with over 20 criminal cases, including those under the NDPS and POCSO Acts.
The seizure was made following a high-speed chase on October 14 after a police team led by SI Surendra Kumar Sethi intercepted a Mahindra Bolero (Reg. No. OR-10-H-0837) transporting contraband from Dokanput towards Pottangi. The accused attempted to flee and one of them brandished a pistol to threaten the police, but all five were apprehended without any injury.
The arrested persons are Lal Bahadur Darjee, Trinath Khara (30), Suresh Bisoi alias Butia (22), Sanjaya Khara (19), and Jogesh Khara (20) — all residents of Balel under Machhkund police limits.
Items seized include 350 kg ganja, two pistols, one Mahindra Bolero, several mobile phones, identity documents, and a small amount of cash.
A police team will soon be sent to Bihar to trace the backward linkages of the gang’s narcotics supply network.
SP Koraput Sri Rohit Verma appreciated the public support received through the anti-extortion and anti-crime helpline (9438916918), launched under the supervision of SDPO Jeypore, Sri Parth Kashyap, IPS, which has been instrumental in tracking several criminals in recent times.
