From Clay to Consciousness City High School Students Shape a Pollution-Free Diwali!

Students Spread Green Message by Making Earthen Lamps for Diwali
On the occasion of Diwali, students of the Eco Club at City English Medium High School took a creative and eco-friendly step towards celebrating a pollution-free festival. The young environmental enthusiasts made beautiful earthen lamps (diyas) to spread awareness about the importance of celebrating Diwali in harmony with nature.

Under the guidance of local sculptor Gop Sundar Panigrahi and the school’s security guard Sunil Bhatra, the students and staff learned the traditional art of making clay lamps by hand. The initiative not only promoted cultural values but also encouraged sustainable and environment-friendly practices among the students.
Every participant took a pledge to celebrate Diwali without contributing to air and noise pollution, choosing instead to illuminate their homes with earthen lamps rather than electric lights or firecrackers.

The event was organized by Eco Club in-charge teacher Pratap Patnaik under the leadership of Principal Sudhakar Patnaik. Teachers, students, and other staff members actively participated, making it a joyful and meaningful celebration ahead of the festival of lights.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal Patnaik said, “This initiative reflects the spirit of Diwali — light over darkness and wisdom over ignorance. By making earthen lamps, our students are lighting the path of sustainability.”

The program concluded with a collective message of “Celebrate Green, Celebrate Clean,” inspiring everyone to make this Diwali brighter not just for homes, but for the planet too.
