Major Blow to Drug & Tobacco Mafia in Koraput Under Operation Prahar.
Continuing its sustained campaign against drug abuse and contraband trade under Operation Prahar, the Koraput district police has registered a series of successful seizures over the past three days.
The operations, carried out across Kakriguma, Semiliguda, and jeypore led to the recovery of huge quantities of ganja and the busting of an illegal gutkha storage unit.The Seizures under NDPS Act by Kakriguma Police Station (Case No. 61, Dt. 03.09.2025) In one of the largest seizures in recent months, police recovered a whopping 394.900 kg of ganja being transported in a truck (RJ 20 GB 2109) and a Bolero (AP 31 CS 9896).
Acting on a tip-off, police seized 32 kg of ganja during a raid. The case was registered under Section 20(b)(c) NDPS Act.Officials said that the massive recoveries show the scale of the drug menace in the region and reaffirmed their commitment to intensify operations.The consignment was meant for inter-state smuggling.The accused have been booked under Sections 20(b)(ii)(C)/29 NDPS Act.At Semiliguda Police Station (Case No. 111, Dt. 02.09.2025).
While Jeypore Town Police Station (Case No. 319, Dt. 04.09.2025):Police teams intercepted a smuggling attempt and seized 5 kg of ganja. The accused were booked under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act.
At the same time a Joint Raid on Illegal Gutkha Trade in Jeypore by the enforcement team of Jeypore Police and Jeypore Municipality staff conducted a raid at Bhadreya Street, Jeypore, targeting illegal storage of gutkha and tobacco products.
The raid, carried out at multiple godowns belonging to Aman Agency, resulted in the sealing of large quantities of banned tobacco items. Preliminary estimates suggest that products worth nearly ₹45 lakh were seized. Authorities confirmed that legal proceedings have been initiated against the offenders.
SP koraput Rohit Verma said “Under Operation Prahar, our focus is to cut down the supply chain of narcotics and prohibited tobacco products in Koraput. These seizures are just the beginning. We will continue to conduct raids and take strict legal action against those involved in such activities.
While Locals have welcomed the crackdown, stating that the rampant availability of ganja and gutkha has been a cause of concern for families and youth. The decisive police action, they believe, will help in curbing the menace and safeguarding the younger generation.
