Centre Celebrates Hyderabad Liberation Day with Grand Ceremony in Secunderabad.
The Union Government on Tuesday celebrated Hyderabad Liberation Day with great fervour, marking the historic accession of the erstwhile Hyderabad State into the Indian Union in 1948.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was the chief guest at the main event held at Parade Grounds, Secunderabad. Upon his arrival, Mr. Singh hoisted the National Flag and took the salute during an impressive parade by the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF).
The commemorative program, organised by the Ministry of Culture, witnessed a massive turnout of citizens, who gathered in large numbers to witness the historic celebration. A series of cultural performances showcasing the rich heritage and traditions of Telangana added colour and vibrancy to the event.
Special respect was accorded to the defence veterans invited to the function. Leading the veteran contingent was Colonel Rajesh Rao, Ex-Commanding Officer of 1 Odisha Infantry Company, Jeypore.
Addressing the gathering, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh highlighted the significance of the day, paying homage to the freedom fighters and armed forces who played a decisive role in ending the Nizam’s rule and integrating Hyderabad into the Indian Union. He also emphasised the importance of remembering the sacrifices made during the operation, popularly known as Operation Polo.
The Centre recently announced that September 17 will be observed every year as Hyderabad Liberation Day, ensuring that the legacy of the movement and the struggles of those who fought for freedom remain etched in the nation’s memory.
