150th Anniversary of Vande Mataram Celebrated with Grand Patriotic Procession.

Marking a historic milestone, the 150th anniversary of India’s National Song Vande Mataram was celebrated with great zeal and patriotic fervour on Friday. More than 400 students from City English Medium School and City High School participated in a grand procession that filled the streets with the spirit of nationalism and unity.
The rally commenced from the school premises and moved through prominent routes Bell Road, N.K.T. Road, Lal Sahi, and Rath Padia before culminating at the Traffic Square, where students and members of the public assembled to sing Vande Mataram in unison. The collective rendition of the song created a stirring moment of national pride, as the air reverberated with chants of “Vande Mataram.”

The event was led by Mr. Shashi Pattnaik, President of the City High School Managing Committee. The students, waving the Tricolour and chanting patriotic slogans, turned the streets into a sea of saffron, white, and green. Portraits of Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, Sri Aurobindo Ghosh, and Rabindranath Tagore the literary visionaries associated with Vande Mataram were carried with reverence, alongside vibrant depictions of Bharat Mata.
Adding colour and cultural diversity to the event, students dressed in traditional attire representing different Indian states, while girls beautifully adorned as Bharat Mata symbolized the spirit of the nation.

The programme was coordinated by Mr. Pratap Pattnaik, teacher of City High School, under the guidance of Headmistress B. Sujata and Principal Sudhakar Pattnaik. The successful organization of the event reflected their dedication to instilling patriotic values among students.
Members of the Telugu Sanskrutika Samiti, including President Bireish Pattnaik and members A. Srinivas Rao, K. Ramakrishna, B. Satish, Y.S. Khanna, Gobinda Nayak, as well as members of SEEWA Pradeep Sahu, Anand Mundra, Ramesh Choudhury, Ranjit Nayak, and Binayak Mohapatra actively participated and lent their support to the occasion.

The event also saw enthusiastic participation from community members such as K. Krishna Rao, Gopal Sahu, Ajay Mishra, and the Yoga team of Prasad Rao Peta. Several committee members and parents joined the celebrations, making it a true community effort.
The special guests Block Education Officer Mr. Chandan Kumar Nayak and Municipal Vice-Chairperson Mrs. B. Sunita graced the occasion and stayed till the conclusion. Both dignitaries appreciated the efforts of the students and teachers for organizing such a meaningful and inspiring celebration that rekindled patriotic sentiments among the younger generation.
The event served as a heartfelt tribute to the creators of Vande Mataram Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, who penned the song in 1875; Sri Aurobindo Ghosh, who interpreted its nationalistic message; and Rabindranath Tagore, who popularized it through his musical rendition. Their immortal contribution continues to ignite the flame of patriotism in every Indian heart even 150 years later.
