It will let users get a better preview of status updates
The feature is being rolled out to more users
WhatsApp is one of the most-used instant messaging platforms in India and every feature that the company rolls out, or works on, makes headlines. It was recently reported that the Meta-owned platform is planning a redesign of the Status updates tray. And now, fresh reports indicate that more users can see this interface. This means that your WhatsApp Status Updates interface could look quite different soon.
According to a screenshot shared by WA Beta Info, users will be able to see others’ WhatsApp Status updates in the form of large, vertical thumbnails. This means that they will get a better look at what other users have posted as their status update, without the need of opening it. As of now, we only see previews of status updates in the thumbnail which is the same size as that of a users’ profile pic. Hence, getting an idea of what they have posted is quite difficult without opening the status. But with this new feature, you won’t have to open the WhatsApp Status of another user to know what they have posted.
As a result, you can save up time by choosing to interact only with updates that seem relevant and interesting to you. The feature would come in handy for people who save up a lot of work-related contacts on their phones and aren’t really keen on seeing their Status Updates except for when it is professional in nature.
Former AI company employees warn about potential AI risks and lack of oversight
They highlight issues like social inequality, misinformation, and loss of control over AI systems
Employees urge AI companies to adopt principles for transparency and protection for whistleblowers
Former employees from top AI companies have written an open letter highlighting the dangers of artificial intelligence. In the latter, they have called for better transparency and accountability in the development and use of advanced artificial intelligence (AI). They believe AI has great potential to improve our lives but are worried about the serious risks it can pose.
AI can bring amazing benefits, like medical breakthroughs and smarter technology, but it also has serious downsides. These employees are concerned that AI could worsen social inequalities, spread false information, and even lead to situations where we lose control of AI systems, potentially causing major harm, including threats to human survival.
The introduction to iOS 18 will open up a portal to several AI features
Other than AI, iOS 18 will also focus on personalised customisation
WWDC 2024 is about to kick off on June 10. The introduction to iOS 18 will open up a portal highlighting AI developments and Apple’s intent with AI. While AI is expected to take over the majority of the event, the tech giant has also planned several other features. Barring AI, iOS 18 is most likely to introduce features to enhance the user experience.
These features include home screen customisation options, design changes, control centre revamp, new settings app and more. Let’s delve deep into the new upcoming iOS 18 features which do not require AI help and are all about customisation.
Adjustable home screen
One of the drawbacks of iPhones and iPads is that the user cannot change the layout of the home screen. And Apple might think the same as with iOS 18. The tech giant will introduce an option to adjust the home screen accordingly.
Rumour has it that Apple will let users place app icons and widgets on their screens for the first time. This means that iPhone users will be able to break free from the current fixed aligned grid and create gaps between widgets and app icons. However, the feature has been associated with Android since forever, but for iOS users, this will be a debut.
Changeable app icon themes
The next big change coming to the iOS 18 home screen is the ability to customise app icons. While nothing is confirmed yet, this new feature will let users change the colour of app icons on a system-wide level for the first time.
Hopefully, during WWDC 2024, Apple will reveal more about the functioning of this feature.
Apple Maps upgrades
It may sound that this feature requires AI but it does not. The speculations are that Apple Maps will add support for a new custom route creation feature with iOS 18. This feature will enable iPhone users to map their own route rather than following one.
Currently, Apple Maps offers several route options to your destination, but with this feature, iOS 18 would provide you with complete control over the precise details of your journey.
