Former CRPF, ITBP DG Anish Dayal Singh Appointed Deputy NSA.
The Union government has appointed former CRPF and ITBP Director General Anish Dayal Singh as the new Deputy National Security Advisor (NSA) with a mandate to oversee internal affairs, PTI reported citing official sources.
A 1988-batch IPS officer of the Manipur cadre, Singh served nearly three decades in the Intelligence Bureau before taking charge of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and later the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
He retired from service in December 2024.As Deputy NSA, Singh will handle critical internal security matters, including Jammu and Kashmir, Left-Wing Extremism, and insurgency in the Northeast.During his tenure as CRPF chief, Singh spearheaded several initiatives, including the establishment of over three dozen forward operating bases, raising of four new battalions in Maoist-hit regions, and a large-scale realignment of 130 battalions to enhance operational efficiency while improving family connect for personnel.
He also oversaw the force’s security operations during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and the first Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir post-reorganisation.Singh was instrumental in pushing for policies aimed at boosting morale and career progression in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs).
His proposal to grant honorary ranks to retiring personnel and to ease stagnation in promotions—sometimes delayed by up to two decades—was approved earlier this year by the Ministry of Home Affairs.With Singh’s induction, the National Security Council Secretariat is now headed by NSA Ajit Doval, supported by Additional NSA Rajinder Khanna, and Deputy NSAs TV Ravichandran, Pawan Kapoor, and Anish Dayal Singh.
