14 Persons Arrested in Jeypore for Planning Dacoities, Extortion and Robbery at Jeypore.
In a major crackdown on criminal activities, Jeypore Town Police have arrested 14 persons in separate incidents involving attempts of dacoity, extortion, and robbery over the past two months.Police have also seized sharp weapons, cash, motorcycles, and other materials used for crimes.
All accused have been forwarded to the Hon’ble Court.Foiled Dacoity Attempt near Bhutnath TempleIn the early hours of Saturday (Aug 30) around 1.10 a.m., a police patrolling team led by SI Sidhant Kumar Behera received intelligence about a group planning a dacoity near Bhutnath Temple, Jayanagar.
Acting swiftly, the police raided the spot and apprehended six accused – Shiva Suna (28), Sunil Parja alias Lalu (21), Suresh Harijan (25), Hari Nayak (22), T. Manikanta (26), and Kartik Khuda (26) – all hailing from Jeypore town.During interrogation, the accused confessed that they had gathered to target night-running vehicles and houses of wealthy individuals.
Police seized four kattis, one sword, an iron rod, torch lights, chilli powder, motorcycles, and other materials from the spot.
Extortion Racket Busted at Parabeda Canal On the same day, another police team led by ASI Sapan Kumar Mishra arrested four youths who were allegedly extorting money from shopkeepers near Parabeda Canal by threatening them at knife-point.
The arrested persons have been identified as Bijay Nayak (18), Subham Bisoi (22), Raj Kumar Kakdi (23), and Ishwar Chetia (28).Police recovered a kitchen knife and Rs. 500 in cash from the possession of the accused.
They reportedly confessed to habitual extortion (“Dadabati”) from local traders.Robbery of Paddy Traders’ Cash In a separate incident on July 3, two accused – Ramnath Suna alias Nakara (27) and Rajib Khilla (24) – were involved in looting Rs. 1 lakh from a group of villagers who had withdrawn Rs. 3.9 lakh from Jeypore after selling paddy.
The accused, posing as locals searching for a lost mobile phone, intercepted the traders’ Bolero vehicle near Subham Kalyan Mandap and managed to snatch part of the cash amid the commotion. Police later recovered a scooter and Rs. 20,000 from the accused.Robbery on Jamunaguda Canal BridgeOn July 24, three unidentified miscreants robbed a medical representative, Mohit Kumar Patra, of Rs. 23,000 and a Samsung A52s mobile phone near Jamunaguda Canal Bridge.
Following investigation, police arrested Shankar Garada (19) and Rohit Hial (22), both from Kalaguda, Jeypore. The stolen phone and part of the cash were recovered.Police StatementAccording to police sources, a total of 14 accused persons have been arrested across these four cases under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police have assured that stringent action will continue against criminal elements to ensure safety and security in Jeypore town.
