Vikram Dev University NCC Inducts First Batch of Women Cadets.
The National Cadet Corps (NCC) unit of Vikram Dev University has taken a historic step forward by inducting women cadets for the very first time, marking a significant milestone in its journey of discipline, service, and nation-building.
Until recently, the NCC unit at the university was restricted to only 75 male cadets. With the introduction of women cadets, the strength of the unit has now risen to 160,comprising 107 men and 53 women. This development not only broadens the scope of NCC in the institution but also brings inclusivity and empowerment into focus.
To commemorate this momentous occasion, the university organized an inception ceremony under the leadership of Captain Lakshman Patra.The ceremony witnessed the presence of several distinguished dignitaries.
Vice Chancellor Professor Devi Prasad Mishra graced the event as the Chief Guest, while Registrar Mahesh Chandra Nayak and Officer Commanding Lt. Colonel Preeti Ranjan Das attended as Guests of Honour.
In his address, Prof. Mishra lauded the inclusion of women cadets and described it as a landmark in the implementation of the New Education Policy (NEP). He stated that the co-education model of NCC in universities would “bridge the gender gap, provide equal opportunities, and prepare cadets to face the challenges of leadership and service with confidence.” He further motivated the cadets to seize this opportunity to strengthen their skills in discipline, planning, teamwork, and patriotic service.
On the same occasion, Lt. Col. Preeti Ranjan Das was felicitated with the Chancellor’s Award and a commemorative plaque for his dedicated service and invaluable contribution to strengthening the 1 Odisha Infantry Company NCC Unit in the Undivided koraput district
The program was well attended by eminent personalities including Subedar Praveen Kumar, Alumini Nishan Patnaik, Durga Prasad Sahu,Suo Yuvraj singh, Manaranjan Barik, Rajendra prasad and Mohammad Shaaraf.
The convocation was not limited to formal proceedings alone.It also featured a series of cultural performances which showcased the diverse talents of the cadets. The vibrant participation of both male and female cadets reflected the enthusiasm and excitement surrounding this new, inclusive chapter of the NCC unit.
With this induction,Vikram Dev University joins the growing ranks of educational institutions across the country that train both male and female cadets together under a single unit. This move is being hailed as a step forward in building equality, empowerment, and shared responsibility in higher education.
As the university embarks on this new journey, the expanded NCC unit stands as a shining example of how tradition and modernity can come together to prepare the youth for the challenges of tomorrow, while instilling in them the timeless values of courage, discipline, and service to the nation.
